Pride of the Abandoned

The first time someone called me "Beautiful" felt like a dream
The second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth was like it's meant to be!
The next thing that I know, thousands are cheering out my name
This pretty face and charming voice have brought me into fame!

I've started holding myself to higher expectation
Each and every day I'm trying to reach perfection!

The spotlight shining bright on me
Exactly where I wanna be
Although we're trapped here in this cage
I'll prove that I can own the stage
The audience cheers for "Encore!"
Like hypnotized and needing more
Though I know I'm artificial
I revel in the superficial

Today I couldn't help but notice something wasn't right
The stringy hair, the drooping skin, was quite a sorry sight
I made myself up best I can to save what does remain
